This year, sixth-grade students are continuing with the Everyday Mathematics program, created by the University of Chicago School Math Project (UCSMP). This is a program I particularly like because of the continuous review embedded in the lessons, and the emphasis on concepts and problem solving. Although there is no 7th-grade book in the Everyday Mathematics series, the Transition Mathematics book 7th graders will be studying also comes out of the UCSMP and is considered a follow-up to the Everyday Mathematics program.
Students in grades 6 and 7 should expect to receive one page of math homework each night. In addition, students will receive practice tests to be completed at home to prepare for the assessments given at the end of each unit. Students will also need to re-do mistakes on these assessments at home and turn them in to me.
